Hollywood Star's Nightmare: JOAN RIVERS Makes Stand-Up Comedy In Dallas
On 06 March 2013
Joan Rivers, the comedian, writer, film director and actress is known for her brash manner; her loud, raspy voice with a heavy New York accent; and her numerous cosmetic surgeries. Rivers' comic style relies heavily on her ability to poke fun at herself and other Hollywood celebrities. We actually know her from E! show “Fashion Police” where she-s co-hosting with Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne and George Kotsiopoulos commenting on the do's and don'ts of celebrity fashion.
She makes us laugh with offensive jokes about celebrities but, as long as it’s not offending us, it’s funny.
We will see her at a stand-up comedy Sunday at the Winspear in Dallas on March 10. Other than media scandals you faced in this past week, what are you going to entertain us with, Joan? Now, Kelly Osborne won’t be here to back you up. Or you might as well carry her in your purse and make her pop-up on stage.
What you didn't know about Joan is that she is not only a TV icon but a Tony-nominated actress, bestselling author, playwright, screenwriter, movie director, columnist, lecturer, radio host, jewelry designer, entrepreneur, red carpet fashion laureate, mother, grandmother ( I bet she doesn't even know that).
Before entering show business, Rivers worked at various jobs such as a tour guide at Rockefeller Center, a writer at an advertising agency and as a fashion consultant at Bond Clothing Stores (and that was it).
Her first role was as a lesbian with a crush on Barbara Streisand (oh, the irony). She was married for six weeks with the son of a Bond Clothing Stores merchandise manager, where she used to work.
Her second husband killed himself (we want to be serious about this, it’s dramatic but, seriously, who wouldn't do that after 23 years of marriage with her?). She developed bulimia and contemplated suicide. She recovered with counseling and the support of her family. Oh bummer!
She has been a patient of cosmetic surgeries since, hold on, 1983!!! Really? We couldn't tell. I thought that she eyes are placed next to her ears just because. And when she cries smiling I never thought it was because of her lifting surgery and Botox. Oh well, what a surprise.
Anyway, if you want to see her, you will meet her in Dallas. An advice: when you see her, don’t yell “OMG, Michael Jackson is not dead is just blond now”. It’s just an illusion so you know.
