JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE Goes Big. Singer Makes It To Billboard's Top With Nearly One Million Sales
On 28 March 2013
Here we are, talking about Justin Timberlake again. He is the Bryan Singer of music. After he had a big break he surely came back with style and a new goal: to rule the world. He did it this time.
Justin Timberlake's third solo album, The 20/20 Experience, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 968,000 copies sold. The sum is the largest for any album this year and the best of JT.
He's just the sixth artist in the Billboard 200's 57-year history to notch multiple No. 1 albums both with a group and as a soloist. Therefore, he joins the 6 fab.
Before his major hit we had Paul McCartney who scored a record 19 No. 1s with the Beatles (between 1964 and 2001) and seven with his group Wings.
Eminem also had six No. 1s from 2000's “The Marshall Mathers” LP through 2010's “Recovery.”
Another fab is Beyonce. She topped the Billboard 200 with the 2001 Destiny’s Child album “Survivor” and 2005's best-of #1's. Beyonce's four studio solo albums, meanwhile, have all topped the chart: Dangerously in Love (2003), B'Day(2006) I Am…Sasha Fierce (2008) and 4 (2011).
Other worth to be mentioned are Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson (scored six solo No. 1s), John Lennon, Diana Ross or Dave Grohl (reached No. 1 four times with Nirvana and once with Foo Fighters).
JT joins the list upon the arrival of The 20/20 Experience, as his previous solo set, “FutureSex/LoveSounds”, led for two weeks in 2006. His first solo album “Justified” debuted at No. 2.
JT’s new album hit nearly a million in the first week of sales. The Timbaland-produced disc moved 968,000 units to end the week on top. "Whoa... Speechless. Shocked. Numbers go up, numbers go down. I just hope this album makes your Summer. "You already made mine" said Timberlake in a tweet.
"That's what hit me when I started listening to the songs that I put together for this record. I said [to myself], 'you know, these are going to be a lot of songs that are going to be fun to play live.' It's a soulful set. It's reminiscent of all the music I loved when I was a kid."
